There are many brides that are considering destination weddings in the Caribbean and specifically the Bahamas, this year alone I have photographed 7 destination weddings hosted at Pelican Bay Hotel, I'm lucky that I have been able to build a special relationship with them over the past few years. They understand and appreciate my style of photography and have commissioned me for private and promotional work, with 15 of my portraits depicting Bahamian children on permanent display in Delphines, their largest event room in their newly constructed meetings venue The Canal House.

For Bahamian brides, I feel that, considering the style of traditional photography that they have been used to in the past with Bahamanian wedding photographers, my wedding photography style is new and refreshing for them.

Gone out the window are those restricted poses, they want memories that are fresh and reflective of the time and effort they put in planning this day, they understand that the photographer they book for their wedding will be the single most important service that they book.

As brides look back on the beauty of the ceremony and reception, the cake and the dinner that were so thoughtfully planned for, the menus are gone, the tuxedos and rentals are returned, and the guests have left. What remains after that day is their love for one another and the images we capture together. It is for this reason I take my role as a wedding photographer so very seriously.
I want every bride to know that the work I do does not just stop after the click of the shutter on the last image of the day but goes on into the creation of their wedding albums, which I personally design, the thank you cards & personalized site that hosts their images free for 3 months so that friends and family can access images easily. Brides Magazine names The Bahamas in best honeymoon destinations

As a professional Wedding & Lifestyle photographer I was extremely pleased to see this list pop up on the acclaimed Brides Magazine
I know that the couples I meet  who travel here to Grand Bahama for the perfect destination wedding are always happy they came and they do come back for more, referring friends and family for their weddings and honeymoons.

Brides magazine has just released its annual list of the best places for honeymoons. The survey was conducted through the Signature Travel Network, a group of more than 6,000 travel agents in North America. The full findings are available in the March issue.

And the No. 1 destination for honeymoons? Hawaii, followed by French Polynesia and Fiji. And the biggest mover on the full list, named as the up-and-coming place? Belize.

Bahamas Humane Society’s 2010 Summer Fun Photography Contest

We invite you to participate in the Bahamas Humane Society’s First Annual Photography Contest. People of all ages can enjoy this fun event and there are wonderful subject categories to select from shown below on the entry form.

1. Open – anyone can enter including professionals
2. Junior Category - Ages11 -15
3. Adults – Age 16 and over
4. Aspiring Photographers – 10 and under

Requirements:
1. Entry Fee $10.00 per image
2. Each entry must be submitted as an 8x10 matted print (Mr. Photo will matte them

Freeport, Bahamas - It was good to see most of the entrants together with members of their families and other supporters at the charming little prize giving ceremony on the Labyrinth on Friday 23rd April, also Shakespeare's birthday!

Our young photographers once again presented the judges with difficult choices in selecting this year's winners. Consideration was given to all aspects of art, design, form, structure, lighting and presentation; in addition to other criteria and this year included an appropriate Shakespearean quotation to suit each entry. Some quotations were exceptionally well chosen and prompted the judges to make an additional award for exceptionally appropriate quotations. Sadly, we did not have any entries in the Primary category. Perhaps, the quotation requirement was off putting to the little ones.

Rico Thompson (a member of Lucaya Youth Theatre Society ) recited 'To be, or not to be' and Bill Nelson, also representing the LYTS gave a short talk on 'the man' himself, Shakespeare, whose birthday anniversary we honoured this year by including the Shakespearean quotation with each photographic entry.

Darren Rollins and Alvin Smith took care of the set-up and sounds, which accompanied the early evening birdsong we so enjoy in the lovely Garden of the Groves; and Erika Gates captured the joy of the occasion, in her lovely photographs attached to this article. (I am sure the contestants are happy she is slightly over the age required to compete with them!)

Barbara Chester welcomed everyone, congratulated the contestants and introduced Lyndah Wells, one of Freeport's popular professional photographers, and chairman of our panel of judges. Lyndah spoke informatively on photography in general and the contestants' work in particular. She graciously presented the medals and awards in conjunction with Rico, who eloquently pronounced each quotation accompanying the photo.

2011 Family Guardian Bahamas Calendar Photo Contest

1. Family Guardian’s Annual Calendar Photo Contest is open to all photographers. The title for the company’s 2011 calendar will be “A Celebration of Nature”. Photographs may be of any subject (animate or inanimate), scene or historical structure that features a striking example of nature as found in The Bahamas.

2. DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES IS JUNE 30, 2010. All entries are submitted at the owner’s risk and will not be returned.

3. All entries are to be delivered to Family Guardian’s Corporate Centre, Village Road and East Bay Street, Nassau, between 9:00a.m and 5:00p.m weekdays only. Envelopes should be marked “Calendar Contest”.

4. All entries must be accompanied by a signed and completed official entry form, available at any Family Guardian office, as published in the newspapers or on the website www.familyguardian.com

5. Only colour images will be considered. Images must be provided as digital files on CD. Digital images must be of high quality (2700 x 2100 pixels or larger). Digital images showing signs of photo manipulation, resolution enhancement or compression will be rejected. To ensure the best colour reproduction, digital images should be supplied in RAW, TIFF or high quality JPEG and in the original colour format the camera uses (LAB or RGB). All entries must be supplied with colour prints (8 x 10) which will be used in the judging process. (Note: prints submitted without CD’s will not be eligible and vice versa). The photographer’s name, photo subject and photo location must be written on the reverse of the print.

6. Judging of entries will be based on beauty, interest, composition, colour, originality and quality of photograph. Particular areas and subjects of interest are detailed on the website (www.familyguardian.com). The photographs selected will appear in Family Guardian’s 2011 calendar. The decision of the judges will be final.

7. A gift certificate valued at $400 will be presented for each of the photographs selected. Photographic credits will be given in the calendar. The number of entries per photographer is limited to a maximum of 5 photos.

8. The winning photographs, along with all publication and reproduction rights attached thereto, become the property of Family Guardian and the company reserves the right to use such in the future. Photos will not be returned.

9. Employees of Family Guardian, its affiliated companies or family members are not eligible.

10. Previously published photos are not eligible.

2nd Annual Garden of The Groves Photographic contest- Winners ceremony

Freeport, Bahamas- Our young photographers have, once again, presented the judges with difficult choices to make. They considered all aspects of photographic expertise in the well presented pictures taken in the Garden of the Groves. The Shakespearean quotations were appropriate, as required; some were exceptionally well chosen.

It is hoped that many, if not all the entrants will be present at the Prizegiving on the Labyrinth at 6.00p.m. on Friday 23rd April; Shakespeare's birthday! We hope to thank and congratulate them all.
Lyndah Wells, one of Freeport's leading professional photographers and chairman of our panel of judges, has graciously consented, again this year, to present the medals and awards.
The winning photographs will be put on display.

Onè Respe- A Photographic Benefit for the Survivors of the Haiti Earthquake

By now you have heard of the devastation caused by the massive earthquake in Haiti. Reports are still coming in, and the full measure of the damage is still not known. Hospitals, residences and government buildings have collapsed or have been heavily damaged. In interviews, Haitian officials have asked all friends of Haiti to please provide any assistance possible to the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. They are in desperate need of medical and disaster relief supplies.

Several photographers including the iconic photojournalist Mary Ellen Mark, have donated the use of one or more of their works to help create this issue as a fund-raising photography magazine to benefit Haiti with all proceeds to be donated to the International Red Cross. The title Haiti: One Respe comes from a traditional Haitian greeting meaning "honor and respect."

I received a wonderful email in the Taste of Grand Bahama inbox yesterday.
It was from a Mr Kell Gallaher who had recently purchased a second home on Grand Bahama.
He writes "We (my wife & I)became friends with Jamie Sarles during our home search and just love the island as well. I used to make a living as a photographer, but now its just a hobby."

Attached to the email were these two wonderful images he shot in Grand Bahama.

Kell lives in the southeastern United States, just outside of Atlanta Georgia in a town called Gainesville,Georgia and will be visiting here often.
