NASSAU (Reuters) - A small plane crashed in a lake in the Bahamas on Tuesday, killing at least eight people shortly after takeoff from the international airport in the capital Nassau, local authorities said.
An official at the Bahamas civil aviation authority said the plane, a twin-prop Cessna 402, which can carry up to 10 people, came down in Nassau's Lake Killarney just east of the airport on New Providence Island after setting off on a flight to another island in the southern Bahamas.
The eight confirmed victims of the crash included one man who died of his injuries after being taken to a local hospital, police said.
They said an investigation was under way to determine the cause of the accident.
