Grand Bahama shines in Supermodel of the Bahamas competition

Nassau, Bahamas - Title winners of the Supermodel of the Bahamas held on April 25th are both shining examples of fresh faces from the island of Grand Bahama. Peandra Knowles and Sinardo Deleveaux, both from Grand Bahama came out as title winners in the female and male category, as 21 finalists took to the runway from Eleuthera, Grand Bahama, New Providence and the Abacos in a competition that has been underway for several months. Similar to Americas Next Top Model, many of the contestants had never modeled before, but were selected and trained for the competition.

The young men, women and girls ranging in ages from 6 to 24 years showed their model best at the British Colonial Hilton and tried to impress the international judges, Kendell Monroe (former manager of the late Michael Jackson) and Audrey Adams (former Wilhelminia model and executive producer of talk ! with AUDREY and publisher of The Adams Report ) visiting from the USA.

The event was hosted by Damien Humes of The Street Team and Charmaine Burrows. top model of OilinSha Model Management. The contestants were greeted with cheers and applause as they first walked the runway in swimsuits and later in haute couture outfits designed by Bahamian designer, Cedric Bernard. Entertainment for the show was nothing less than top notch with Julien performing his hit song, Believe which had everyone singing along, and visiting Bahamian recording artist based in Los Angeles, Brettina singing two of her smooth Jazz singles . In her performance of Bahamian Girl, she was accompanied by the four junior contestants.

In the junior category, Gabriella Hall of New Providence won the Little Supermodel of the Bahamas title. Kourtni Pinder of Grand Bahama is the junior runner-up.

 2010 Supermodel of the Bahamas, Peandra Knowles, an 18 year old biochemistry student at College of the Bahamas who plans to become a cardiologist, said this about her win, "When I began to walk down the runway after I won, I gave God thanks for allowing my dreams to come true. From the beginning I had such wonderful supporters back home that gave me encouraging words to keep me strong for the competition. I want to thank them and my wonderful parents, Prescott Knowles and Annarine Johnson who never doubted that I could win. The possibilities are endless for my future and my eyes are open wide to the road ahead!"

2010 Supermodel of the Bahamas, Sinardo Deleveaux is a 20 year old who is into yoga, pilates and flying trapeze who since entering the competition has modeled in a couple shows in Freeport. Sinardo had this to say about his win, "This is an amazing opportunity for me, and I am prepared to work as hard as possible to take this further. I'm so excited about New York, and I'm prepared for the exciting things it has to show and teach me. I want to thank everyone who supported me, in particular my East Restaurant and Italian Specialty families where I work."

Most Popular went to Miguel Wright, Kourtni Pinder of Freeport, and

The Future Star award went to Reashawn Davis of Nassau.

Most Votes went to Garrett Bowleg of Grand Bahama.

The 2010 Supermodel of the Bahamas Designer award went to Cedric Bernard.
The title winners of Supermodel of the Bahamas received $3000 in cash and prizes and have already been scheduled to walk the runway in New York in Stomp the Runway New York Fashion Week from September 11th to the 18th. On this trip they will be escorted to Go Sees with renowned designer and TV personality, Nole Marin, and will attend theater shows, model parties and have photo shoots with top photographers in NYC. In March 2011 they will walk in Miami Fashion Week.

Who will be the next Supermodel of the Bahamas? By The Bahamas Weekly

Nassau, Bahamas - Supermodel of the Bahamas 2010 has become THE major Bahamian model search for The Bahamas and this year the event is bigger and better than ever, and will include 11 finalists from the family islands of Eleuthera, Grand Bahama, and the Abacos. A preliminary event took place in Nassau in March where the contestants participated in a busy weekend of workshops, photo shoots, and video interviews.

The schedule was exhausting, giving the contestants a realistic feel of the life of a model, experiencing a lot of hard work and not all glitz and glamour; however the contestants went home ready and enthusiastic to prepare for their biggest day yet to come, that being the final competition on Sunday, April 25th at the British Colonial Hilton Governor's Ballroom at 8pm.

"This group of 21 finalists have been working hard, and with the expertise of our visiting judges I'm looking forward to our completion, because the Supermodel of the Bahamas title winners have already been recruited to appear in a runway show in New York in September of this year ," said founder and director of Supermodel of the Bahamas, Mr. OilinSha Coakley. "The Bahamas is being seen more and more in the global fashion scene and this event will help get our faces out there. I am proud to say that last year's winners have participated in New York Fashion Week, Islands of the World Fashion Week, and others runway shows. There's a bright future for The Bahamas."
Supermodel of the Bahamas is similar to America's Next Top Model in that it discovers new faces, most of whom have never modeled before. The candidates are then trained and pushed to perform, whereupon it becomes obvious after photo shoots, runway shows, and interviews, who is made for the life of a model.

The 21 final contestants are Peandra Knowles, Brittney Weech, Angel Rolle, Garrett Bowleg, Sonji Simmons, Sinardo Deleveaux, Delvonae Beckles and Kourtni Pinder of Grand Bahama Island; Christi Cadet of Eleuthera; Priska Pascal and Allita Bain of the Abacos; and Miguel Wright, Andreanique Johnson, Kieasha Adderley, Travante’ Russell, Kenresa Pickering, Wayne Mackey, Carnesha Smith, Reashawn Davis, Keturah Cartwright, and Gabriella Moss of New Providence.

Leading up to the finals, a grand Float Parade will take place on April 24th featuring the garments of one of The Bahamas' top designer's, Mr. Cedric Bernard. The contestants will parade through the streets via motorcade from 12noon until 4pm, starting at RM Bailey Park, along Marathon to Wolff Road, past COB, around JFK, down the Cable Beach strip and finishing at the British Colonial Hilton.

Once at the Hilton, the contestants say farewell to the public and quickly ready themselves for their all important interviews with the international judges. This year the event is proud to be hosting Beth Sobol, founder of Miami Fashion Week; Audrey Adams, international radio talk-show host and former Wilheminah model; Kendell Monroe, the former manager of the late Michael Jackson; and Natalee Duhaney, international designer out of New York.
When the lights come up, and the contestants hit the runway on Sunday they will have their final opportunity to prove themselves capable of becoming a supermodel. One lucky but worthy young man, young woman, and child will represent The Bahamas internationally and help increase the awareness of the authentic and unique culture and beauty we embody.

Damian Humes, founder of The Street Team Magazine will co-host the show with international supermodel Bobby Roache, of LA Models and who is featured in many well-known ad campaigns (Mexx, Sean John, Coors Light, South Pole, Camel Actives, Bronx) and has appeared in Beyonce's music video Irreplaceable. *Bobby will be at the Juke Box at the Mall at Marathon on Saturday, April 24th from 12noon to 3pm to sign autographs .

Audience members of Sunday's show will be treated to live performances by Bahamian recording artist Julien who will sing his hit song, Believe and the LA-based, but Bahamian born international recording artist, Brettina will sing her world-wide released hit song, Bahamian Girl. Both of these artists will also be at the Mall at Marathon on Saturday the 24th with Bobby Roache, so come out and take the opportunity to meet all three of them.
Supermodel of the Bahamas' overall title winners (one male and one female) will be awarded with cash and prizes worth $3000.00, a complete portfolio, representation with OilinSha’s Models, and will have the opportunity to compete in the “Top Model of the Universe” competition in Europe.

Directly after the "Supermodel of the Bahamas" (male and female), and the "Little Supermodel of the Bahamas” winners are announced, the event moves to Club Luna for an exciting after party.

Supermodel of the Bahamas Announces 2010 Contestants

 Nassau, Bahamas - Twelve young contestants from Eleuthera, Grand Bahama, and Abaco arrived in New Providence on March 13th to join fourteen contestants from Nassau to be presented as those who will be vying for the 2010 Supermodel of the Bahamas title which will be determined on May 2nd at the British Colonial Hilton Grand Ballroom.

"Our launch weekend came off as a great success and I'm looking forward to the float parade and preliminary competition which will take place on April 24 and 25th," said founder of Supermodel of the Bahamas, Mr. OilinSha Coakley.

The 36 official contestants are Peandra Knowles, Brittney Weech, Angel Rolle, Garrett Bowleg, Daniel Lages, Sonji Simmons, Sinardo Deleveaux, and Shavantai Smith, and Kourtni Pinder of Grand Bahama Island; Christi Cadet of Eleuthera; Priska Pascal and Allita Bain of Abaco; and Miguel Wright, Deandra Smith, Andreanique Johnson, Kieasha Adderley, Travantae’ Russell, Kenresa Pickering, Wayne Mackey, Carnesha Smith, Reashawn Davis, Kourtni Pinder, Keturah Cartwright, Breann Wood, Delvonae Beckles and Gabbriella Moss of New Providence.

 

In Nassau, the contestants participated in a busy weekend of workshops, photo shoots, video interviews for the upcoming ZNS reality show on the event, and the weekend finale of a launch party where the contestants walked the runway in a fashion show featuring designs from Brynda Knowles of the Fashion Group, Cedric Bernard, Rachel Garcia, Debonaire Boutique and Tuxedo Styles, and ICandy Swimwear.

The event is in its third season and has expanded with a "Little Supermodel of the Bahamas” however there was not enough interest from young male models so this will mean that for this year only a female Little Supermodel award will be presented.

In the older group, Supermodel of Bahamas is the overall title and a male and female winner will be awarded with cash and prizes worth $3000.00, a complete portfolio, representation with OilinSha’s Models, and will have the opportunity to compete in the “Top Model of the Universe” competition in Europe. The overall title winners will be flown to New York and accommodated in the OilinSha’s Models & Talent Agency's apartment.

Last year's winners have been participating in such high profile shows as the New York Fashion Week, Islands of the World Fashion Week, and others.

The competition continues on Saturday, April 24th when all the contestants will once again be back in Nassau for a Float Parade and the Preliminary Competition on Sunday, April 25th at the British Colonial Hilton.

Supermodel of the Bahamas to hold final open call on Eleuthera Feb 27th prior to main event May 2nd

NASSAU, Bahamas -- The number one model search in The Bahamas is set for May 2nd in the Wyndham Crystal Palace, Rainforest Theatre. Supermodel of the Bahamas will bring 64 contestants from Grand Bahama, Abaco, Exuma, Eleuthera and New Providence to meet center stage to see who will be crowned Supermodel of the Bahamas, with this year to include a children's category. 

An open casting call will be held at the Quality Inn Cigatoo in Governor's Harbour, Eleuthera on February 27th from 1pm until 4pm. Do you have the looks, the style and grace to become a winner?

"Supermodel of the Bahamas" is the overall title and the winners will be awarded with cash and prizes worth $3000, a complete portfolio, representation with OilinSha’s Models & Talent Agency and the opportunity to compete in the “Top Model of the Universe” competition in Europe.

 Nassau, Bahamas - Supermodel of the Bahamas invites residents of Abaco to an Open Call on Saturday, January 2nd and 3rd from12pm until 4pm at the Abaco Beach Resort. Supermodel of the Bahamas is now in its third year and the event is searching for young men, women and children (ages 3 - 21) for their 2010 competition in April 2010. The competition has grown to become the number one Model Search in The Bahamas, and with the event branching into a reality television show in 2008 with JCN network, channel 14, the Model Search has quickly become a favorite show in The Bahamas. The show has been confirmed to begin airing on January 16th on JCN running to the finals on April 24th.

Supermodel of the Bahamas returns to GB Sunday December 13th, 2009

I first had the pleasure of meeting Oilinsha Coakley when I interviewed him at the Islands of The World Fashion Week in 2008. During the course of the interview he revealed his connections to the Fashion industry, A former model and dancer, he set up his own Talent agency Oilinsha Models

He quickly followed this up with a reality show titled- The Making of a Sumermodel- which aired Saturdays on JCN channel 14. Creator of Supermodel of The Bahamas, a model competition which is now in it's 3rd year. He held an open call casting here in Grand Bahama November 28th and 29th. Setting up in the International Bazaar, Aspiring models turned up in large numbers to see if they could meet the requirements and hopefully get a shot at being chosen to enter the competition.



Oilinsha Will be returning to Grand Bahama Sunday 13th December,where Approximately 40 persons who have been selected into the first phase of the competition will experience their first styling and photo shoot will take place.
