Tonight- Friday 4th Dec. Susan Clegg- Missick, Sabor's Events co-coordinator Will greet the first 25 ladies with a Smirnoff Martini- A New Custom made Martini from the Sabor Cocktail List. If you are arriving with a group of 10+ Call Sabor in advance And receive a complimentary bottle of champagne

What A Wickedly Wonderful Weekend!

There were so many fabulous parties and events happening over the Halloween weekend,
But I must confess that we at Taste of Grand Bahama, think that the best time was had by all Trick or Treaters at The Sabor Halloween Party of The Year!

Sabor Restaurant & Bar in conjunction with Clegg-Missick Events, Threw a Ghostly party by the pool from 8pm. In attendance were over 300 people mostly dressed in fun Halloween costumes.
We don't think we've ever seen so many Sexy nurses in place- Bar the Rand Memorial hospital in Freeport!
Chef Worly made a frightening appearance as some kind of silver alien Predator villain. Whilst Susan Clegg Missick was trying to save the day in her sporty Lara Croft Costume.
Whilst everyone danced by the poolside to music by DJ President- Who kept true to his Island roots by wearing a Rasta cap With Locks attached, It was a hard decision for the judges to decide who the top prizes of the night should go to.
Honorable mentions for best Lookalike were given to:
- Kat Santana- as Beyonce (single Ladies Video)
- Jennifer & Ole Weigand as Angelina Jolie & Brad with new twins.
Buta after much heated delibarations.
The Best Lookalike with a prize of 25 free drinks reedeamable at any Funky Friday event, went to newly Wed, Brian J Stirling- Whose one piece rhinestone studded jumpsuit and wig gave no doubt that he came as The King himself- Elvis.
Honorable mention for best costume overall was Adrian who was wrapped up as a Mummy.
Finally the Overall winner was Malachi( not his real name, but he wouldn't reveal it!) who attended and performed all night as a scary old Granddad. With full a scary latex mask, With shirt with black suspenders & Bow tie, He limped the night away on his walking cane, doing the Moonwalk to Michael Jackson's Thriller, and dancing with the many nurses, border patrol agents and bunnies in attendance.
A final mention must go out to a late arrival who attended dressed, it seemed as Malachi Wife. the Old lady shuffled about on the dance floor complete with hunchback, zimmerframe and fluffy house slippers.
So if you missed it this year make sure you set the date date to attend the next Sabor Halloween Party of the Year!

Cooking up a promotion of Grand Bahama in ICELAND

Volunder Volundarson, otherwise known as, "Chef Worly" (in Bahamas) or "Chef Volli" (in Iceland) has been living in Grand Bahama for almost 10 years now and is the mastermind behind Sabor Restaurant and Bar at the Pelican Bay Hotel. He has his own cookbook called, Delicious Iceland which received the Gourmand Cookbook Award in Beijing, China and in 2008 it was chosen as one of the top 100 cookbooks published in the world for the past twelve years, and Volundarson also had his own cooking show for a season on the Icelandic TV 1 station called Skiarinn.

With his cooking show Volundarson wanted to share his Bahamian home and the island experience with his people back in Iceland and it was just after hurricanes Frances and Jeanne, in autumn of 2004 that he filmed the segments here in Grand Bahama, and included his Bahamian staff, Chefs Emmanuel Smith, Elizabeth Grant and Sigmund Hall, all of whom still work with him today at Sabor.

In this video, a trailer for Segment 1, you will see the chefs in Grand Bahama catching crabs, spearing lobster, climbing trees for coconuts, cooking in open pits on the beach, cooking in a private kitchen and cooking on a yacht in Florida.

When asked about the show Chef Volundur said, "It was very challenging to shoot because the island was badly damage after the two hurricanes, but we did our very best and made a beautiful show despite that."

"My focus was the Island and ingredient that you can get locally... We speared lobster and cooked it in many different ways, and caught land crabs and made crab soup, and crab and rice. We made fresh Gully Wash, fresh Tuna Carpaccio and other Island delicacies," said Volundarson.

The cooking show was filmed on the beach where he cooks in an open pit, in the kitchen of a local residence, in native restaurants, and one show was also filmed on board a yacht in Florida.

The show was such a great success and received such great revues that Icelandair.com made two trips to Boston and at the time there was a direct flight from Boston to Grand Bahama, and two large groups came down from Iceland and stayed at Pelican Bay Hotel in Grand Bahama.

Volundarson has become one of Iceland's most celebrated TV-chefs. In 2008 the chef was featured on the Today Show with NBC TV personality Al Roker. His vibrant and colorful personality earned him both the admiration and respect of his viewers and colleagues. The Bahamas is blessed to have such a create mind in and out of the kitchen.

Grand Bahama residents were out in droves this weekend having fun & raising money for good causes simultaneously.
The weekend kicked off with the Launch party of Funky Soul Fridays at Sabor Restaurant and Bar.
The President, resident DJ for Funky Fridays, got the crowd in a frenzy, spinning a mix a funky soul, dance & pop music.
Whilst some party goers lounged on the VIP beds,sipping champagne others enjoyed the dinner menu which was extended till 11pm.
The swealtering humidity was no match though for the spirit which one of excitement & appreciation.
