Roxy Perry concert supports charities in Grand Bahama

Freeport, Bahamas - The recent Roxy Perry concert held in Freeport was a huge success and through funds raised at the event The Bahamas Weekly, Thayer's Natural Remedies and Mackey Media were able to make substantial contributions to two worthy charities in Grand Bahama.

On June 2nd organizers of the event made monetary presentations to both the Grand Bahama Home for the Aged and the Columbus House Big Brother Program run by the Rotary Club GB Sunrise.

The Home for the Aged will be celebrating it's 20th anniversary this October and is always in need of assistance. Mrs. Agatha Thompson will be presenting more information to the community about this special anniversary later this summer.

James Sarles, Director Rotary Club GB Sunrise Columbus House Big Brother Program said "We are very appreciative to Mackey Media, Thayers Natural Remedies, and The Bahamas Weekly for raising funds from the Roxy Perry concert for the Columbus House Big Brother Program. These much needed funds will assist us helping 25 boys and girls from Columbus House with our weekly activities. Thanks again to everyone who was involved in this fantastic concert and we hope to see Roxy Perry back in Grand Bahama Island again soon."

The Columbus House Big Brother Program is a volunteer mentoring program for teens 12 -17 years in Columbus House to develop self esteem, teach life skills and provide guidance and assistance with jobs and apartments during the transition phase when the teens age out of the facility.

The event organizers wish to thank their major sponsor, Pelican Bay Hotel. Roxy Perry Delivers the Blues to Grand Bahama

Freeport, Bahamas - New York's Queen of Blues, Roxy Perry belted our her own brand of the Blues at the Joker's Wild to an appreciative audience and sold out event on May 29th in Grand Bahama.

Promising to create a party atmosphere, the Blues Hall of Fame inductee did just that, as the audience danced during most of her songs. Her powerful voice and mesmerizing harmonica accompanied classics or originals of her own. There was Blues, R & B, Rock, Swing, and Jazz.

Perry and her band members Bob Fusco (bass guitar) and Jim Moran (lead guitar) were accompanied by local musicians Kevin Fox (keyboards) and his uncle Joe Fox (drums) and together they sounded like they'd played for years.

The audience enjoyed two long sets, and during the lengthy intermission, not even one person left. At the end of the show Perry met and talked with many of the audience on their way out.
Accolades came pouring in after the show, and those that missed it, wished they hadn't. Due to the overwhelming response of the event, a jam session was held at Tony Macaroni's at Taino Beach where local musicians were invited to come and jam with Perry and her band. Larry Lewis, Ralph Munnings, Tyrone Ferguson and others joined Perry and tourists were treated to a culturally diverse musical collaboration.

"We had such a great time and made many new friends. We love The Bahamas and hope we can come back again soon," said Perry on Sunday.

In 2009 Roxy Perry was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame as an Ambassador to New York and as one of the Great Blues Musicians of all time.
