Lakeisha Wilmott promoted to Financial Controller

FREEPORT, Grand Bahama Island - The management of Grand Bahama Power Company (GBPC) is pleased to announce the promotion of Mrs. La-keisha Wilmott, to the position of Financial Controller, effective July 1st, 2010.

In her new position, Ms. Wilmott is charged with the day-to-day management of the Finance team and is also responsible for the department’s staff training and the company’s budget preparation.

Prior to her promotion, Ms. Wilmott served as the Assistant Financial Controller for GBPC and its Customer Service Manager and Revenue Accountant. Mrs. Wilmott also spent seven years as the Financial Controller for Freeport Jet Wash & Auto Mart Ltd.

Wilmott began her accounting career in 1993 as an Assistant Accountant with Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina before moving into the same position at KPMG Peat Marwick in Nassau, Bahamas. Her exposure to all areas of accounts including the analysis of existing financial statements, audits, and forecasts prompted her passion and pursuit for accounting. It was there that she began her studies toward her CPA designation. In 2000 she became a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Georgia.

A former business and accounts lecturer with Success Training College, Mrs. Wilmott holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in Accounting from Benedict College, Columbia, South Carolina and is a member of the Bahamas Institute of Chartered Accountants.
