Grand Bahama woman takes top honours at Florida bodybuilding and figure event

FREEPORT, Grand Bahama -- Grand Bahama athlete Lanelle Phillips recently competed in the 2010 NPC Dayana Cadeau Classic at the Broward Performing Arts Centre in Ft. Lauderdale. The Bodybuilding, Fitness, Figure & Bikini Championships, held on Saturday, October 23rd, were a National qualifier event.

Top placement meant qualifying for Nationals where the country’s best athletes compete against each other for the highly coveted IFBB ProCard. Once an athlete makes pro status, he or she starts competing in the IFBB Federation competitions and, no longer an amateur, can earn money when placing in the top three at contests.

Lanelle took 1st place in Masters and 3rd place in Figure Class C and qualified for Nationals so she will now be competing at Jr. Nationals in Chicago in June of 2011. The winner in each height class receives a ProCard.

Lanelle plans to hit two or three more contests between now and then and continue to improve her physique in the next eight months. She feels that competitions are important as the more you do the more comfortable you are on stage and the more experience you gain.

"It will be important that I continue to compete in the interim and continue to push my body’s conditioning more and more to get leaner and gain more mass. Of course I hope to continue to place high and bring home more hardware in the process."

On a personal level, Lanelle is aiming on competing at Excalibur in December while celebrating her 3rd year of sobriety in LA. "I return every year to celebrate another year clean and sober at Promises, the treatment facility I attended in Oct. of 2007. This year will be even more special as I plan on being on stage and competing while there."
